Went to the bar with my roommate last night. We went in for a beer and a sandwich. Came back out, turned on my car, and all of a sudden as soon as it started the worst sound I've heard came out of the engine. It sounded like a broken belt spinning around or a bad bearing. Called a tow truck then waited two hours for it to arrive. Got it loaded then called a cab. Long night
After doing a little research it sounds like it could be a rod bearing. I say this because I know it's not uncommon for Subaru's to have this problem.
I don't have the money to fix it if it's that. So yesterday might have been my final drive with it. I've only had it a year but I loved every minute and will be very sad if I have to get rid of it. I will wait till I get word from the mechanic on Monday, but I'm not going to get my hopes up either. I just got the handling where I want it. Of course it has a full tank of gas in it too...

Shooot. Do you need access to a vehicle and do you have a place to work on it?

Yes and no. I'm fortunate enough my folks can help out. And even if I had a place to work on it I have almost no mechanic skills. Why do you have a fun car I can borrow =)

If you have a place to work on it, an engine hoist is only $150 at harbor freight.... Wrx's are ridiculously simple to work on, I went from my 1st time changing my brake pads, to one month later pulling the engine.

No kidding? That's not bad. I've changed my brakes but that's been the extent. Unfortunately I don't have a place. I live in an apt complex and no one I know has space to do so

Yep, I had a little trouble with the throttle cables, but that's it.
